Winging it

A nice surprise during one of our morning walks on the Scottish Birders Tour last weekend was a small flock of Waxwings. I heard them before they came into view; their ‘boiling kettle’ calls are quite distinctive. The flock stopped no more than a few hours before they continued their journey north back to their Scandinavian breeding grounds.

Colour on a grey day

A small group of Waxwings gave a bit of colour on a grey day last week. Back-lit as they were they never gave wonderful photographic oppertunities but my word they are beautiful creatures.

Waxwings

The berries were getting depleted but the Waxwings were still finding them. This individual was one of three we encountered in Durham at the same place we saw the Yellow rumped Warbler last month.
