In Wales a couple of weeks ago the Chough were dancing in the wind over the cliffs and sea. Love the playfulness of these corvids.

Tania had never been to Powys in Wales. Never seen a Kite feed. Last week, the weather was good so why wouldn’t we take a break in central Wales.
Once we (or rather one of us) had got over the temptation to photograph every lamb in Wales we made it to Gigrin.
Advertised as the world’s biggest bird table, Kite feeds are quite something. A site to watch open jawed as birds flock to be fed. A photographers delight.
There’s nowhere quite like Wales. The scenery is to die for and it contains some incredible wildlife.
Ever since I set the business up some 14 years ago I’ve been visiting the Kite feed at Gigrin in Powys. It never fails to impress guests and this year was no exception. The speed of the birds test the resolve of any photographer. However we had a good group this last weekend and they did well. Another trip at the end of this month will bring different sightings and different memories.
We had more Chough on the Wales trip in August than I’ve ever seen in previous years. Could there be a bit of an upturn in numbers do you think? Is this maybe why there have been one or two extralimital records in the UK this year? I guess it’s possible. Any which ways it’s a charming, amusing corvid that I particularly enjoy watching.
We had a great time on the ‘Wild Weekend in Wales’ tour in August this year. Next year the tour is in November. We’re going specifically to photograph the Red Kites, Leaping Salmon, Chough and Bottlenose Dolphins. I hope you can come along. An itinerary is available here.
Here are some of the photos of the Red Kites from this years tour.
As one of my guests put it this weekend: “Charming Choughs and Delightful Dolphins”. She was referring to the Wild Weekend in Wales tour we were on. We got to see both Choughs and Bottlenose Dolphins. Among everything else we saw for me it has to be the Red Kites that topped the list. They are so enigmatic and powerful. To see 250+ of these birds wheeling in a kettle above us is just one of the UK’s wildlife spectacles. Next year’s tour is up on the website and open for bookings.
… and here are some of the Bottlenose Dolphins we saw on our ‘Wild Weekend in Wales’ the other week.
