The feeding behavior of waders here in North Norfolk is sometimes interesting to watch. It’s not impossible to find a flock of Ruff feeding in complete harmony side by side and then on another occasion it seems as though they’re at war. These two Ruff were having a particular vicious spat with one limping away from the encounter.
Looking a bit rough and ready was this little chap that appeared on one of our tours on the marshes the other day. Not quite resplendent in his summer garb but this Ruff was sort of … well … ‘getting there’.
In a small sunlit pool tucked away among the reeds this Ruff fed up on anything it could find in the mud. With just a jittery Redshank for company he started off quite close but soon moved slowly away when he heard my shutter go off.
