Completely Marbled

.

We were walking along the chalk cliffs of the south coast last month. The sun was out and the air was still. Butterflies abounded … of many species. However one species that was everywhere was the Marbled White; and I do mean everywhere. An unprecedented hatch meant we saw several hundreds on our short walk. This is a butterfly of primarily the southern counties and does not normally occur in Norfolk. So to see it in such large numbers was a treat.

A Nice Surprise

I was quite taken aback at seeing this Green Veined White on a tour last week quite late in the day. All we have been seeing of late have been Speckled Woods, both Whites and an occasional Red Admiral and Small Tort. Thought I’d seen the last of these until next summer. A nice surprise.
