Breaking Cover

Sat in the hide last week as we looked out over the marshes this little fella broke cover. He came out of his hidi-hole and stepped into the sunshine for a bit of a preen; and who can blame him. Some good weather over the last few weeks here in Norfolk. However, experience tells me we’ll pay for it in the long run.

Charming Choughs and Delightful Dolphins

As one of my guests put it this weekend: “Charming Choughs and Delightful Dolphins”. She was referring to the Wild Weekend in Wales tour we were on. We got to see both Choughs and Bottlenose Dolphins. Among everything else we saw for me it has to be the Red Kites that topped the list. They are so enigmatic and powerful. To see 250+ of these birds wheeling in a kettle above us is just one of the UK’s wildlife spectacles. Next year’s tour is up on the website and open for bookings.

Beach Cutie

We were walking down the beach the other day and this little cutie popped up at the side of us. Grey Seals can be endearing as anything or as ugly as sin.

Nearctic

Wouldn’t mind finding one of these on our trip to Scillies this year. Nothing like a nearctic for getting the heart racing. American Redstart taken in Canada this year.

Bronze serpent

A chance encounter with a slow worm on a couple of tours the other day was appreciated by all concerned. This legless lizard although harmless is quite beautiful. A bronze serpent.

When is a hoverfly not a hoverfly

This Volucella Zonaria pushed it’s nose in front of us during a recent tour. A Hornet mimic it does quite a good job for our largest hoverfly!
