Some of the Black tailed Godwits visiting Cley at the moment are just stunning.

It’s amazing how you can find simple beauty in simple things. Last week we watched this Black tailed Godwit immersing itself in the water searching for food.

Most of the Black tailed Godwits on the coast have now reached prime condition. Some beautifully coloured up birds on the tours last week.

Wash & Brush-up

This Black tailed Godwit was having a good old preen when we saw it last week on tour. Several of the birds were moving to summer garb with some magnificent feathering.

Arrivals

The arrival of returning waders signals the end of our long warm summer days. Gathering on the coastal marshes are Black tailed Godwits; some still resplendent in their breeding dress.

As we waited yesterday for birds to come closer the light was failing and clouds gathering to the west; a storm was on its way. A Sparrowhawk took the opportunity to hunt the scrape before the rain arrived and the Godwits detonated into the air.

In disguise

Recently, during a tour along the coast we came across this wader. At a distance it was doing a good impression of a Curlew. It was however a Black tailed Godwit with a slightly deformed bill.
