As we sailed back from Spain last week the horrendous seas caused by the tail end of Hurricane Henri started to quell. Looking over the edge of the deck rail I reckon we saw around 20+ Sunfish. This one had just the tip of one fin poking out of the waves.
When I go as a volunteer on whale watching trips in Spain, we often see sunfish. They’re incredibly common in Mediterranean waters. They’re sometimes the only thing you see all day so they’re always a welcome sight.
We once came across one here in Norfolk Alistair but unfortunately it had died probably of shock due to low temperatures. Story here rel=”nofollow”>https://letterfromnorfolk.wordpress.com/2012/12/10/eye-to-eye-with-a-sunfish-2/ it was a long way from the temperatures off Spain. I’d be interested in your whale watching off Spain. Who do you use and where do you go Alistair?
