Rubber-necking Wrynecks

Three very reluctant Wrynecks at Winterton earlier this month. This particular one favoured Rowans and sat out in the sunshine … for just an instant.

Lovely photo. I only ever seem to see wrynecks on the ground.

Thank you Malcolm. I was just lucky to be in the right place when it sat up. I met a photographer friend of mine as I was walking back up the dunes and I found out later he had no sightings of Wryneck at all and got very wet into the bargain.
I normally come across Wrynecks on the ground too – perhaps when they are preoccupied at ant nests is when we have the greatest opportunity to see them.
