Walking along the top of the chalk cliffs of the Jurassic coast in Dorset last month was a pure delight. The short turf was heaving with masses of butterflies. Among them were the tiny, tiny Lulworth Skippers; one of our smallest butterflies. Just to give you a perspective of scale the ‘boulder; in the bottom right of the photo is a Rabbit dropping!
Easily identified from the similar small skipper the Lulworth has patterning on the fore-wing reminiscent of a burst of sun rays.
