Serin in Norfolk

.

Having received a phone call I downed tools and headed towards a garden on the coast this afternoon. It was with a great deal of anticipation I was invited to look for a bird that had been seen feeding under the bird table. Serins are a continental species; a small but subtly beautiful finch that from time to time make landfall in the UK.

It didn’t take long for it to appear.

Sitting with its belly feathers covering its legs however, it hid its true origins. A white plastic ring surely means it is of captive origin.

I’ve never managed to get really close to a Serin on previous occasions and yet this one allowed us to get relatively close; I guess that alone should have alerted me. Still … nice bird, and nice garden too. I was grateful for being advised of its presence.
