A Vision of Quatermass

It wasn’t far from the road but there was no path. The pines were close together and it was dark. I found myself almost clambering among low branches and bushes.

Paul had said it was growing somewhere in here; I couldn’t initially see it.

There … erupting from the leaf litter was a Cauliflower Fungi. A beacon of light in the gloom; it looked like some sort of perverse giant vegetable.

I have never seen this particular fungus before. It was new to me. I am quite impressed.

I used to have a neighbour who said that the weeds in his garden ‘spread like Quatermass’
