Chalara Ash Dieback is a fungal disease which entered the UK from the continent about three years ago. Late last year the media proclaimed Armageddon for the British Ash as the fungus was reported within the eastern counties. Burn and slash seemed to be being advocated. However in the cold light of day there appears to be no dead mature Ash Trees although younger trees are more susceptible.
I have two mature Ash here at Falcon Cottage and so far (luckily) there doesn’t appear to be any infection. Recommendations are now not to plant Ash for now but don’t cut any mature trees down either. However, do plant other trees. In the UK we have 10% coverage compared with 40% in other European Countries. We’re very much out of step!
