Buzzard v Pheasants

Wandering around Norfolk as we do we invariable bump into a Buzzard … or two. This was not always the case however; Common Buzzards have come back from the brink in East Anglia. Numbers in the last ten years have increased dramatically having previously suffered at the hands of gamekeepers and then the effects of DDT. Now however if I stand on the summerhouse steps it won’t take me long to see one sailing over the rolling landscape around Northrepps.

It comes as some surprise that the government was considering controlling Buzzards because they are alleged to affect Pheasant shoots.

Reduce the number of an indigenous species to promote the industry that has built-up around killing a species that is introduced, and use tax payers money to do it! I think they got it very wrong. Thank goodness popular opinion changed their mind. Now what are we going to do about Hen Harriers? – ONE PAIR are nesting in England this year! The gun toting ‘custodians’ of our grouse moors have some questions to answer don’t they?
